Trade Unions' role in Business and Human Rights' processes

FES Ethiopia and CETU executive committee discussed on the role of trade unions in offical business and human rights processes like the National Action Plans on Business and Human Rights on May 14 in Addis.

Since the draft policy framework of African Union on business and human rights was shared with stakeholders and because of an increased awareness about gross violations of human rights by business companies, many African states started to take action. However, processes to increase human rights in the business sector should be transparent and inclusive and of course they should take place with the involvement of trade unions and workers.

FES and CETU discussed, therefore, about the important role of trade unions in NAPs, possible areas of engagement and CETU's contributions towards a National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights in Ethiopia.
