Internships

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) African Union Cooperation Office, the FES African Migration Policy Centre (FES AMPC), and the FES Ethiopia National Office are seeking motivated interns for the 2027 calendar year at our joint premises in Addis Ababa.

Tasks

Interns will support the work of all three teams: FES Ethiopia National Office, FES African Union Cooperation Office (FES AU), and the FES African Migration Policy Centre (FES AMPC), depending on current activities at the time of the internship. They will work both independently and in collaboration with colleagues and project partners.

Typical tasks include:

  • Conducting thematic research
  • Writing reports and meeting minutes
  • Supporting event planning and general office administration
  • Attending seminars, conferences, and policy events in Addis Ababa
  • Assisting with communications and social media tasks

Requirements

Internships typically last between 3 to 4 months, with a maximum duration of 90 days for non-residents due to visa regulations.

Applicants should:

Hold a Bachelor’s degree or be in the final stages of a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in a relevant field (e.g., Political Science, Economics, International Relations, International Law, Journalism, African Studies, etc.)

  • Demonstrate interest in political, social, or development issues
  • Be interested in the thematic areas of all three FES teams
  • Be able to work independently and show initiative
  • Have strong communication, research, and social media skills
  • Be proficient in English (the working language of the office)

Application Process

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Please note:

  • Internships take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
  • FES does not cover costs related to travel, visa, accommodation, insurance, or meals
  • A monthly allowance is provided by FES

Please note that all applications for the 2027 intake will be formally reviewed in September 2026. Short-listed candidates will be contacted for an interview.
