HER Rights as a worker: 5 years ILO Convention on Sexual Harassment at the workplace

On 17 July 2024, FES Ethiopia organized a workshop in Hawassa for 48 women members of the Confederation of Ethiopian Trade Unions. This event provided crucial training on the 5-year ILO Convention 190, focusing on addressing sexual harassment and gender-based violence (GBV) in the workplace.

The training was delivered by an expert from the Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association (EWLA). It began with an exchange of abuse or violence experienced at work, sparking a fruitful discussion on the true nature of Gender-based violence.

During the workshop, participants discussed many challenges they face in the workplace like low pay, nonequal representation, violence at work etc. as well as strategies to overcome these issues, and how to utilize the ILO-Convention's frameworks to create a safer work environment. The trainer also guided them on the appropriate and effective ways to report incidents of GBV.

The workshop allowed participants to learn from each other, gain a deeper understanding of the impact of GBV, and to see the advantage of cooperation and solidarity in the fight against inappropriate and dangerous behavior at work.
