Conflict, Peace building and Reconstruction in Ethiopia
The conference was a collaborative project between FES Ethiopia and Bahir Dar University. The conference was attended by the academia, practitioners, students, and invited guests. The participants applauded the timeliness of the conference. One speaker stated that “there is no better time than today to discuss the conflict, peacebuilding, and reconstruction in Ethiopia.”
In the two days conference, the participants deliberated on the political processes that led to the conflict in Northern Ethiopia and other parts of the country. The speakers addressed various issues of the recent conflicts in post-2018 Ethiopia. The causes of the conflicts, the impacts they have brought and the solutions to build peace were the major focuses of the conference participants.
The conference was an eye-opener to the participants in a way that it brought together researchers from different parts of the country and showed the complexity of the current conflicts and magnitude of the damage that resulted in economic and humanitarian terms. It also offered an opportunity to think about how to deal with the current crisis and stop the vicious cycle of conflict in Ethiopia.
