Political Dialogue and Transformation

Political transformation, political transition and democratization have been at the core of Ethiopia’s political agenda since the 1960s. Beginning in 1991, Ethiopia has been undergoing a political transition with the aim of moving towards consolidated democracy. With increased efforts to deepen this transition agenda since 2018, structural, legal, institutional, cultural, and capacity-related challenges remain.

In line with FES vision, FES Ethiopia is involved in facilitating dialogue, research and building of networks within the country, the region and around the world with government and non-governmental organizations. We support the strengthening of democratic processes, institutions and stakeholders in Ethiopia’s political system and society. We also wish to contribute to efforts for an inclusive and meaningful national dialogue and reconciliation efforts where all relevant stakeholders have a voice and can input their ideas and suggestions.

In doing so, FES Ethiopia is working with various partners to support inclusive dialogue and political transformation in the country. In our joint projects and activities, we are cooperating with government ministries and departments, civil society organizations, think tanks, parliament, political parties, trade unions, academia, and media practitioners.
