The Shifting Geopolitical Alignments in the Greater Horn of Africa: Prospects and Challenges

What are the perspectives of the eight regions on matters pertinent to geopolitical issues in the African region?

FES, in collaboration with the Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) and Political Science and International Relations Department of the University of Addis Ababa, organized a regional conference on the theme “The Shifting Geopolitical Alignments in the Greater Horn: Prospects and Challenges” on 22-23 November 2022. High-level experts from eight countries presented the positions of their respective countries on matters pertinent to geopolitical issues in the region. Policymakers, diplomats, and scholars attended the meeting and joined the discussion. The conference was the conclusion of the so-called monthly “Breakfast Series” which addressed selected topical geostrategic issues in the greater Horn of Africa region. In undertaking these policy deliberations, priority attention is given to current affairs and emerging trends in the immediate region and the globe affecting inter-state relationships at bilateral and multilateral levels. The Breakfast Series is scheduled to commence again early 2023, and another regional conference will take place probably by the end of the year 2023.
