Rights for Women with Disabilities

To mark the start of ‘The 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence’, FES, NEWA (Network of Ethiopian Women Associations) and Ethiopian Women with Disabilities National Association (EWDNA) organized a high-level stakeholder conference with focus on ‘Addressing the needs & priorities of Women with Disabilities’.

The conference started with a documentary film depicting the experiences of women with disabilities, sadly often related with violence. Experts’ presentations after this, highlighted the gaps in the Ethiopian legal framework and in the implementation of the already existing laws.

 The panel discussion after this focused on the lack of coordination by stakeholders especially government offices when it comes to addressing the needs of people with disabilities.
