2nd National Conference on Contemporary Gender Issues

The conference targeted stakeholders from academia/researchers, policymakers, and members of civil society organizations with the aim of contributing to the process of building a peaceful and prosperous society

Research papers on feminist subjects, gender-based violence, the history of women’s political participation in Ethiopia, studies on women’s internal migration, and gender and judicial decisions were some of the topics raised and discussed.

For doing so, Bahir Dar University’s Gender Department teamed up with FES Ethiopia in organizing a two days conference to highlight and contribute to the inclusion of women in all aspects of life. The discussions underlined that there still is room for improvement in Ethiopia when it comes to women’s involvement in political, economic, and social arenas and aimed at bringing policy recommendations to light on how to address these challenges.
