"MADE IN GERMANY": The Supply chain due diligence Act

Experts from Germany as well as different African countries discussed in a high-level Panel Discussion on the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act during the ‘Made in Germany’ trade fair on 2 March 2023 at Ethiopian Skylight Hotel focusing on human and labour rights protection expanded to global value chains.

The discussion included presentations from John I. Gbodi, Political Officer AU-PAPS and Dr. Carsten Stender, Head of Directorate-General VI, Germany’s Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs on Business and Human Rights promotion by the AU as well as the German Due Diligence Act. The following discussion included as  panellists Carsten Streiter, Dialog Textil Bekleidung Germany (DTB), Ina Hommers, Counry director of GIZ Ethiopia & Djibouti and Rose Omamo, Secretary General of the Amalgamated Union of Kenya Metall Workers, as well as Dr. Carsten Stender. It  reflected on what the Act would mean for the global south, workers in general, labor conditions and cooperation between trade unions in Africa and Germany.
