On 24 and 25 October Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) organized a workshop for CETU’s Women Committee, titled “Forming Strategic Alliances between Feminist NGOs and Trade Unions”.
The first day of the workshop featured a presentation from EWLA’s Expert Senait Tassew on the ILO Convention 190 on Violence and Harassment at the workplace. A detailed discussion took place on what constitutes sexual harassment and gender-based violence in the Ethiopian work environment, and it presented case reporting mechanisms and the current reporting systems in place. The participants also shared their experience and raised questions based on encounters they themselves or colleagues had.
On the second day of the workshop Dr. Wossen Argaw led the discussions on assessment of CETU’s Gender Policy. The participants highlighted the need to review the policy, they identified gaps and elements that should be improved, talked about how to include more workplace gender issues in the policy as well as they discussed its implemention within CETU, the Federations, and the Basic Unions.
